Taking a day trip to a neighboring town while on vacation is the perfect way to get the most out of your visit. Day trips from Cape San Blas and Port St. Joe will not disappoint.
While here, you’ll want to make time for a drive over to Apalachicola.
Get there early, and spend the day browsing all of the great shops (you don’t want to miss BECASA). Grab some lunch with your friends and family (we especially LOVE The Owl Cafe). Take a football to toss around on the greens as you watch the boats come and go.
Downtown Apalachicola is filled with so many unique shops, and outdoor spaces for you to enjoy, and only a short 20 minute drive from Cape San Blas and Port St. Joe.
Make some time for a drive over to Wewahitchka, FL, and contact Matt Godwin at Off the Map Expeditions to schedule a once in a lifetime outdoor adventure touring the Dead Lakes.
The rugged beauty of this area was featured in Peter Fonda’s 1997 movie “Ulee’s Gold,” a story about the beekeepers who for more than 100 years have harvested world-famous Tupelo Honey from the swamps of the Apalachicola River Basin. Be sure to bring your camera – the photo ops in this gorgeous area will leave you breathless. Click here to enjoy a glimpse of the Dead Lakes with Master Photographer, David Sussman.
For those visitors looking to spend the day shopping, grabbing a movie, a great dinner, and maybe some exciting adventures, consider a day trip to Pier Park in Panama City Beach.
About an hour away, Pier Park is a wonderful day trip from Cape San Blas and Port St. Joe. Take a break from the beach (or escape a rainy day), and arrive mid-morning. Let the little ones in your group enjoy the arcade while the adults grab a bite at Dave and Busters. Take the family to see a great movie at The Grand Theatre and then stop by Frank Brown Park to let the littles run off some energy at the playground or aquatic center.
